Washington, DC, September 14, 2021 - Last Week Tonight with John Oliver announced on September 12, 2021, that fans can buy a teddy bear to benefit the Supporting Human Rights and Free Press for Belarus Fund, in partnership with GlobalGiving. In Sunday’s episode, John Oliver described the people of Belarus’ struggle for human rights and freedom of speech in Eastern Europe.
The show sold teddy bears for the cause, with all proceeds, up to $200,000, supporting nonprofits working in Eastern Europe to advance the fight for human rights and press freedoms.
Fans anywhere around the world can also make a donation to the Supporting Human Rights and Free Press for Belarus Fund, to provide support to organizations helping Belarusian people, activists, and journalists who are being detained and abused for challenging the Belarusian government. Donations to the Supporting Human Rights and Free Press for Belarus Fund are eligible for tax benefits for US and UK donors.
